Mickoski: We'll Do Everything Within Our Power on Reforms — Let Brussels Judge Us on Delivery

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski reaffirmed that the Government remains fully committed to implementing the Reform Agenda, saying the final assessment of progress toward the European Union should rest on concrete delivery. The statement followed a morning working meeting with the European Commission delegation, led by Enlargement Director-General Gert Jan Koopman.

The Only Country in the Region Still Working Toward December

According to the Prime Minister, the meeting covered reforms that form part of the Reform Agenda — both those in the grace period beyond December and those on the normal track expiring in December 2026. Mickoski relayed that, according to the Commission's own representatives, Macedonia is the only country in the region actively working on its reform obligations during this period — positioning it as a frontrunner on the pace of implementation.

Delivery, Not Signatures

The Prime Minister drew a clear line between formally signing documents and genuinely implementing reforms at home, characterizing the former as a practice of the previous government that produced no concrete results for citizens.

Mickoski explained that the Government will do everything connected to the reforms and its domestic homework, after which it falls to Brussels and the European Commission to assess whether the country genuinely deserves to be part of the European Union — on the basis of delivery. He stressed that his European counterparts consistently confirm the principle underpinning the process: it is merit-based, with progress proportional to what is achieved.

The position marks a shift toward measurability — a focus on concrete results rather than political promises, which is precisely the methodology the European Commission itself applies in the new enlargement cycle.
